How did that happen you ask? Well through some reschedules and such I ended up with NO sessions this weekend. Yes, you heard me right folks. NONE! It was a nice break and I probably needed it. I spent the whole weekend with my family. I won’t say I didn’t work at all. :) I did have 4 the weekend before so I had plenty to do and I also got a chance to update my website. I added some of my recent sessions to the galleries and home page and updated my Senior section. Remember if you know a Senior who is looking for an alternative to the same old same old Senior casuals feel free to spread the word. I have quite a few on the books and I am really excited about adding them to my business. Go check out the website if you have time.

So what to do with the family? How about a museum! What a great idea! We packed up the gang and headed down to Fernbank Museum to see their new exhibit Frogs: A chorus of colors It was awesome. Such cool frogs… who knew there were so many frogs and that they were in such danger. It was a great exhibit and the kids had a blast. They of course loved the dinosaurs and Garrett our self proclaimed scientist loved the Sensing Nature exhibit and A Walk Through Time in Georgia exhibit. He was fascinated by the molecule room which made Scott (the hubby) very proud. :) Lydia didn’t seem all that impressed except for the dinosaurs and all of the buttons she got to push. But what do you expect from an 18 month old.

So here are some of the images I grabbed in between, carrying Lydia, chasing after Lydia, getting Lydia to stop screaming… you see where this is going. :)

This is about the best I could do with the three of them together…
oh and we got in trouble by the security guard for sitting on the big fake rocks. LOL!

Everyone enjoyed coloring the tree frog. :)

A frog that was just hangin out at the surface of the water.

and a shot from above of the same frog.

The African Bullfrog.
This thing eats birds, snakes and rats. It was so slimy and weird.
The kids loved it!

Outside on the way to the car we grabbed a passerby to take a quick family shot.
Pretty funny actually. :)

My three ducks in row.

A little Atlanta skyline. I love this view on Freedom Pkwy getting onto 75N.

A bit of silliness with a self portrait in the van.

Ella our backseat passenger. She is such a good girl and sits back there by herself
never complaining. God love her.

Garrett showing off his frog life cycle. He was so proud of it and loved explaining
how a tadpole (or tad-a-pole as they call it) becomes a frog.

The last session of the weekend…

Posted on September 20, 2007

And it was a wonderful one.  To say I was tired by the time this session rolled around was an understatement.  I had been going all day, since 8:30 in the morning and hardly sat down.  We met at 5:00 pm too!  But when I arrived I was greeted by the most adorable family.  They were all so excited I was there and their energy was contagious.  I immediately felt my energy come back.  I find this happens a lot actually.  The energy of my clients always influences me more than I ever realized it could.  And their energy really set the tone for an outstanding session.  Mom had booked this session almost a year ago but because of some unfortunate events we had to postpone, but everything happens for a reason and I truly feel like this was the time we were supposed to meet.  We all had a blast… talking, laughing, playing with the dog and the caterpillars and of course with the family’s 4 wheeled baby, the 65 mustang.

Mr. C is only 5 (almost 6) but doesn’t he look older?  He is so mature and so incrediabley sweet.  I had the best time with him.  He was so into our session and kept coming up with his own ideas and poses.  It was too cute.  He didn’t want it to end either.  He kept saying “just one more!”  Ahh if only my children were like that.  LOL!

So here is Mom’s sneak peek… I know she is sitting by the computer waiting on it.  :)   Thank you R family, for allowing me into your lives.  I feel honored to be your photographer.

Photographers notes-  Most of these shots were taken with my 135mm 2.0L.  The ones with the mustang were taken with my 24-70 mm 2.8L.  I need a wider angle for those.  I am very happy with the results from both lenses.  These were taken between 5:00 and 6:15 in the evening.  Awesome time!

A 6 year old and his 2(almost 3) year old sister.

Posted on September 19, 2007

These guys were so sweet.  They were so well behaved and so kind to each other.  I was amazed they would hold hands and hug without one single “he’s gross” or “I don’t like girls” comment!  :)

Mom wanted some pictures of her boy before he lost anymore teeth.  She told me she wanted capture him before he became a big kid and ummm… I hate to break it to you mom but he is a BIG kid.  :)  He is so tall and so has that big kid look.  He also was so well behaved and did whatever was asked of him.  Little sister was a joy too.  She said the funniest things and kept us laughing the whole time.  And just like her big brother she did everything we asked.  Needless to say they were a joy to photograph and I was so happy to meet them.

Photographers notes- These were taken with my 135mm 2.0L between 8:45 am and 10:00am.  I rarely do sessions that early but mom wanted early and I am so glad she did.  The light was magic!  I have never had a client with glasses until this client… except my own of course.  :)  I was worried but with the low soft light it was easy to keep the glare off.  I was so excited to see no glare on his glasses!  I also tried to keep my aperture set at 3.5 or so.  That way it reduce the risk of the camera catching focus on the glasses and not the eyes (which can be a BIG problem).

5 month old, blue eyed baby boy.

Posted on September 18, 2007

My second session this weekend was this ultra cutie! I first met him at 10 days ish… he was delivered early and was so tiny. I think maybe my tiniest yet. He was so beautiful then just as he is now. His eyes are PIERCING! Just an amazing color. We had a great time with him. He laughed and talked to us, especially when he was naked. :) Then we went outside to play in the grass. He hardly fussed although he got very serious for the second 1/2 of the session. I think he was ready for a nap. But no fussing. It was so great to see baby L! I look forward to seeing you guys again in January!

Photographers note- I took the inside shots with my 50 mm 1.2L lens and the outside ones with my 135 mm 2.0L. I have said this before but I adore that 135 mm. It is my new baby! These shots were also taken from 4:30 - 5:00 inside and then 5:30 to 6:00 outside. Something like that. My point is it was late in the day so I had wonderful low light in my backyard.

First of 4!

Posted on September 17, 2007

Wow what a weekend! It was a busy one. I try to only schedule one a day on the weekend but this weekend I ended up with 4!!!! Welcome to the Holiday Season! :)

So first up is an old friend. I haven’t seen her in years but we met at a Breastfeeding Support Group with our first children. I believe her little girl was 5 weeks and Garrett was 3 weeks. We started a playgroup and spent the majority of the first year together. We had lost touch over the years and I had not even met her 2 boys, when she contacted me about photographing them. I was thrilled to say the least! It was so awesome to see everyone. Her oldest is so big and so breathtakingly beautiful. She was a dream to photograph, a natural in front of the camera. Loved seeing her again. And when I looked into her eyes I could still see that sweet little baby girl. And her boys were a riot. So cute and so funny. Big smiles all the time. They are all just beautiful children. And for 6, 4, and 2… the put up with all our instructions and requests beautifully. Needless to say I had a great time. So here is a sampling of the H children.

Waiting baby J!

Posted on September 15, 2007

I am a bit behind posting this session but wanted to share some images with this very sweet couple.  They are expecting their first child in about a month and I am lucky enough to not only photograph a beautiful belly but also their new little guy.  We had a lot of fun and it made it even more fun that they live in my hometown.  So it was neat to chat about the town we grew up in.  I had fun photographing the fur baby as well as the two of them.

Enjoy the last few weeks of that little guy all to yourself mommy… soon you will be sharing him with everyone around you.  Including me.  :)

Isn’t mommy gorgeous!

And a favorite of the fur baby!

Tag… Your it!

Posted on September 12, 2007

So there is a blog tag going on amongst photographers.  And a few nights ago I was tagged.  So pretty much you are supposed to write 8 things about yourself.  So here goes.

  1. I rode horses competitively for 20 years.  I started out as a 3-Day Eventer and eventually moved to straight Dressage.  I think my first word was HORSE!  My first horse (and only horse I actually owned- I rode many others) my parents bought me was a yearling.  I raised him, broke him and trained him all by myself.  With instructors of course, but I did all of the riding.  I owned him for 13 years and sold him when my son was born.  It was a bizarre thing to be horseless but moving on to raising children just seemed right.  His name was Ziggy!  He was wonderful!
  2. I wanted to be a vet when I grew up… ALWAYS!  Things happened and plans changed.  I ended up graduating from college with a Bachelor of Science in Geology and a minor in Biology.  Weird huh?  I am such a science person… so when I started photography the creative side was all very foreign to me.  I never thought of myself as creative.  It has been an amazing journey so far.
  3. I worked as an Environmental Geologist for 1 year.  I supervised drill rigs!  Hard hats and all people!
  4. Another job – I was a personal trainer.
  5. I used to shave my head and bleach hair white … myself.  I have two tattoos; a blue lady bug that symbolizes my first car.  A blue 1972 VW bug.  My other tattoo a sun with my Aries sign in the middle of it.  They hurt!  A lot!  I used to have two piercings other than my ears, my tongue and my belly button.  I still have my belly button and it made it through 3 pregnancies.
  6. I never wanted children… until I met my husband.  Now we have 3!
  7. I used to say I would never drive a minivan….  Can I just say “I LOVE MY MINIVAN! “
  8. The most useful thing I learned in High School was how to type.

And here are 8 photographers that I admire.  Check them out! (you are supposed to tag 8 others but I am changing it up… rules are meant to be broken right?)

Robynn Munnings -  amazing Canadian photographer and my friend- she is the one that tagged me.

The Image is Found - my favorite wedding photographers, Nate took my family’s portraits last year

Audrey Woulard - amazing child photographer

Erin Vey - outstanding Seattle Dog Photographer

Iasha Tryhuba - super talented Canadian photographer, she doesn’t have a blog so here is her website.

Blue Candy Photography - Classic, beautiful California photographer

Kate Austin - Fun, Funky and Talented Australian Photographer, check out her extra fun and super well done website

Carrie Sandoval - one of the most amazing newborn photographers around.  She doesn’t blog either but her site is worth browsing.

So now you know some of the MANY places I draw inspiration.  There are so many more that I didn’t list but these are definitely some of my faves.

And what kind of post would it be without pictures… I already did that picture less post yesterday.  :)  So here is my little one.  Taken tonight and we were just playing around but sometimes that is when you get the best stuff.  She melts me with her little grin.  FYI- in the first one she is in a cardboard box.  :) It is now a new favorite of mine.

Check out that tummy!

She is a busy girl….

Photographer’s note-  I took these with my 100 mm macro.  It just happen to be on my camera so I used it.  Wow!  Very impressed with it.  So super sharp!

7 weeks of love…

Posted on September 7, 2007

So I am finally getting to my third session from last weekend.  A most adorable family with their newest member Baby A!  He was 7 weeks old and just precious in every way!  We started inside and even though he was a big fussy we got some cute stuff then we went outside to get some of the whole family and would you believe that little guy PASSED out!  It was so funny.  He was like a newborn.  We shot some outside asleep brought him in and did more!  So fun.

I just adore the W family!  They are so wonderful to work with and have the cutest most well behaved children!  (Ok fess up Mom and Dad… what is your secret?  The rest of us want to know.  :))  I was lucky enough to meet them for the first time when Mr. A was in his Mommy’s belly.  And I was super thrilled to meet A in person.  I feel very honored to be his first photographer!  Looking forward to watching you grow little guy.

Look at his cheeks and lips.  Don’t you just want to squeeze him?  :)

Big Brother!

Big Brother #2!

My favorite shot from the session.

His brothers were so sweet and gentle with him.  It really touched me.

Still sleeping!

And a newborn pose that worked like a charm with this sweet 7 week old.
Still squishy!  Gotta love that.

Photographers note:  And for all you photographers out there.  The inside shots were taken with my workhorse lens; the 50mm 1.2L and the outside shots were taken with my new love; the 135mm 2.0L.  The color and DOF on that lens is amazing and it focuses at lightening fast speed.  Did I mention I loved it?

A slideshow to share…

Posted on September 6, 2007

So I thought it would be fun to share a whole session with you guys. You may remember this dolly from a previous post. She is my assistant’s little girl. I so adore this session. At one of my favorite locations.

It takes a minute to load so be patient and make sure you click the “play” button in the middle of the first image.
It kind of blends into the image.
