Post Holiday…

Posted on November 30, 2008

Wow what a week.  It is always a whirlwind around here during the Thanksgiving week as it is MY Holiday to host.  The whole family comes to our house for Thanksgiving dinner and we do all the cooking (with a bit of help from the parents and in-laws).  We have been doing this since we got married, so this is our 10th year.  I really enjoy having this tradition for my kids.  And the older ones, especially Garrett, are really getting it.  I wanted them to experience Thanksgiving as I did… as a southerner.  That means Turkey, giblet grave (yes people- made with the giblets and neck), cornbread dressing, cranberries (I make mine from scratch-yum- no can shaped red goo), mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, deviled eggs (brought by Gram), and Watergate salad (another of Gram’s dishes- cool whip, pistachio pudding, pineapples and marshmallows- what could be better).  So after 10 years we have the system all worked out.  And this year went wonderfully.  Good food, good company, and good times.  :)

Unfortunately Saturday morning disaster struck… yes the dreaded stomach virus!  YUCK!  It hit my oldest at 4 am and then Scott by daybreak.  Both of them were completely pitiful all day.  Then today… Lydia.  But hers seems to be a much lighter version.  So now we wait to see if Ella and I get it.  Ah the waiting.  :(

So as I sat here all weekend, which is pretty much all I did, I decided to start my shopping online.  I found some really cool sites and good deals.  So I thought I would share some with you guys.

For my green friends

They have lots of cool recycled gifts including recycled gift paper and these cool lunch bags.

Uncommon Goods

This is my new favorite site.  :)  So many cool things here, most of them made from something recycled.  I have quite a wish list here.  And this sweet little necklace is on it.  (Hint Hint Scott) It is made from recycled glass… so cool.

Viva Terra

Here you find Eco living with STYLE!  :)  I love this store.  I have a few things from here already one is this cute little number

It holds all our incoming mail in style.  LOL!  They have lots of cool things so take some time look through their site.

AH!  My most favorite pair of shoes.  These things are like HEAVEN on your feet.  They keep your feet toasty and warm but not sweaty.  The description on them actually says good for temps from 30 below to 80 degrees.  I totally believe it.  They are amazing.  Not exactly pretty, nor cheap, but you won’t care once you wear them for a day.   I bought myself a little early “Merry Christmas” this weekend and purchased these babies (I currently have a pair of chocolate short classics). I am contemplating buying Ella some… she would love them!  She loves boots.  I just own the classic style but Ugg has lots of other styles now.  Totally worth every penny.

Another recent love of mine… I love jeans.  And these are yummy!

I also bought me one other thing from my good friends at Dell.

24-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor

  • 24-Inch WUXGA 1920 x 1200 Display – View approximately 30%1 more on-screen content compared to Dell 20-inch monitor.
  • 6 Millisecond Response Time (typical) – Reduces ghosting and imaging associated with movement for fluid motion.
  • 3000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio – Get dark blacks, sharp images, crisp text, brilliant color saturation and greater life-like detail.
  • 110%2 Color Gamut (CIE 1976) - With Dell TrueColor Technology, you’ll see more color than average monitor of 72% color gamut.
  • Full HD 1080p – Supports higher definition than HD television and a wide array of HD connection options like HDMI, Display Port, DVI-D with HDCP and HDMI 2.1 Audio Out.

The 24-inch display gives you the space you need to visualize your entire creation. With about 30% more on-screen real estate than a Dell 20-inch wide screen monitor display, you can view two complete pages side-by-side and edit text without toggling or squinting. Get amazing 1920 x 1200 resolution for stunning detail, fast 6 millisecond (grey to grey) response time for fluid motion, and high 3000:1 dynamic contrast ratio.

Mind you this is not my first 24 inch monitor but I will soon be running dual 24 inch monitors.  WOW!  Now that is exciting.  LOL!  I might need sunglasses with these two puppies running in my dark office.

Tea Collection

Love their children’s clothes.  So very stylish.   Some of you may remember a super stylish 2 year old that I had a session with a month or so ago wearing this.  :)

LOVE this catalog.  They have the coolest workout wear as well as casual wear and swimsuits.  These are on my list as well.  Not that I do much Yoga but I do a good bit of Pilates.  :)

And for some more fun…

Host an Elf

This a wonderful place to sign up for one of those pesky elves to come and spy on the kids.  They are becoming all the craze!

Along with purchasing one for your family you can also sponsor an Elf for a child who is in the Hospital here in Atlanta battling cancer this Holiday Season.  Elves for Catie was started last year in memory of Jenny and Tre’s beautiful daughter Catie who lost her battle to cancer in January of 07.  I have followed their story for a while now and they use this program as a fundraiser for CURE Childhood Cancer.   So by buying an elf to sponsor you are making some struggling child’s day a bit brighter.  And for every elf you buy (for yourself or to donate) remember to check the boxes, fundraiser and CURE Childhood Cancer, with every checked box $5 goes to the cause.  You can read all about Catie and her family at their site HERE.  Only a few short days after Catie’s death Jenny gave birth to their second beautiful baby girl and I am happy to say is now expecting a boy.  So you can read all about Izzy and her soon to be brother as well as Catie here.

I am happy to say that we will have a very special Reindeer Boy Elf visiting us this year and I also sponsored one for the Hospital.  So if you are looking for something to make you feel all warm and fuzzy about there ya go.

So there are a few of the interesting sites I found.  I hope you guys enjoy looking through the sites as much as I did.

Many things to be Thankful for…

Posted on November 26, 2008

This year I have many, many things to be thankful for.  First and foremost my family… my three beautiful, healthy children and my husband.  The fact that we are all healthy and happy is really all I can ask for but I feel like my blessings go on and on.  Sometimes during the crazy days of my life it is easy to look over the little things I should be thankful for but during this time of the year especially I stop, take a step back and really look at my life.  My three children that often make me feel like I am losing my mind but they aree by far my biggest blessing.  The joy I get from watching them grow into little people, the smile they bring to my face when I see them, the laughter that they give me with their funny little language, their innocence in this sometimes cruel world, the wonder and excitement of once again seeing the world through the eyes of the child, all of it so over rides the craziness that is our normal day.  Sometimes I am so overwhelmed with how lucky I am to have them that it brings tears to my eyes.

Garrett and his logical, analytical approach to the world.  His laughter and bright smile.  His need to still cuddle.

Ella and her curiosity about everything living.  Her sweet, giving heart.  The way she will not let me leave the house without “kiss and hug, kiss and hug, I love you mommy!”

Lydia for cute little self.  Her presence in a room makes everyone smile.  Her funny little phrases and undying love for horses.  Her toughness and her sweetness.

And without my husband Scott I could not/ would not be the person I am today.  My strength is rooted in him.  He still on a daily basis gives me compliments about my hair, my outfit or just in general how pretty he thinks I am.  He always makes me feel like I can do anything.  He supports every dream, every idea, every hope I have.  Still 10 years later he is my best friend, the person that is the constant in my life.  Without him many things would not be possible and this amazing little business is one of them.  When I first started my business he was the one who pushed me along, supported me in my long hours in front of the computer and watching the kids while I went out shooting. He still does that today. Never complaining about keeping the kids on the weekends, never questioning my hours, always being my biggest fan.  He is truly an amazing person, husband and friend.  I am incredibly thankful for him.

And I couldn’t't write a post without mentioning how thankful I am for this business.  I wake up everyday and love my job.  I love my clients.  I love my camera.  I feel so blessed to have finally found what I am supposed to be doing.  I know now, after 5 years that this is the career I was meant to have.  I would have never thought in a million years as a teenager/ young adult that I would be a mother of three running a photography business but here I am… and I love every minute!  Every crazy little minute.

So I hope you take a moment in the craziness of preparing your family’s Thanksgiving dinner to stop and remember what you are thankful for… and maybe we should all do this every day.  Hmm…. just a thought.  There are many other things I did not mention here that I am thankful for… many many.  My mom/dad who are always there when I need them and have always supported me being me and all of my wonderful friends, especially my best friend Julie, who loves me for who I am.  And my good friend Anita, who is always there when I need her. Just to name a few.

And since a post is no good without pictures I wanted to share some snaps I took of the kids one day when we were out walking at the Greenways.  Nobody was dressed for pictures, everyone was dirty, and at least one person was grumpy but I am still so excited to have these.  My kids, being kids.  Makes me remember what I am thankful for.

Atlanta, GA Newborn Miss K | Atlanta Newborn Photographer

Posted on November 22, 2008

Welcome to the world Baby K!  I had the pleasure of meeting this sweet family of 3 last weekend.  Miss K was such a little peanut, so delicate and beautiful.  She thought it might be a good idea to stay awake at the beginning but she eventually drifted off for me.  The amazing thing about Baby K is that she is such a peaceful soul.  When she was awake she was so calm and relaxed, hardly fussed at all.  Such lucky parents to have such a peaceful baby.  And dare I say this sweet little 10 day old smiled at me, she was awake looking around, caught my gaze and smiled.  Oh it melted my heart.  So sweet.  I felt so privileged to capture that moment.  Here are a few of my favorites, but I have SO many already and I am only 1/2 way through proofing this session.

All wrapped up.

In her blanket her aunt made her… she was so snuggly in it.

The tail end of the smile… so stinkin cute!

And do you think she has any choice but to be beautiful with these gorgeous parents?
No I don’t thinks so!

Thank you M family for allowing me to capture this very special time in your lives.  I will have your session for you soon.

Woodstock, GA Newborn Miss C | Atlanta Newborn Photographer

Posted on November 19, 2008

Meet Miss C.  She has to be one of the smallest newborns I have ever photographed.  So stinkin adorable.  I just loved how little and curly she was.  Although she didn’t really want to sleep for us she did finally give it up and drift off into night night land.  Her Mama and Daddy are completely smitten with her too.  Especially Dad and as a mother that melts my heart….. Daddy and his little girl.  She was long awaited and very loved.  Welcome to the world little girl.

This is one of my favorites for sure… just look at Daddy and his little girl.
She already has him wrapped good and tight around that finger.

Told ya she was small….  :)

A little more of a peek…

Posted on November 15, 2008

So here is a peek for one of my moms who is a confessed blog stalker.  I know she is always looking so I thought I would post a few from her session.  Even though I have her gallery almost ready to show her.  So be on the look out Lisa for your gallery in the next couple of days.

Meet Miss A and her twin brothers C and P.  They are such funny kids.  We laughed as much as we took pictures.  I have been photographing this family since before the twins were even around. They are such a wonderful family, so awesome to work with and I am proud to call them my friends as well as my clients.

So this is for mom…  :)

This at the top of my list for favorites of the whole year….
I love how little C looks here with his Daddy, the expression that Daddy is giving him and
the bridge and trees.  It just all fell into place.  And none of it was planned.  LOVE that!

And could his face be any cuter.

LOVE this one of Miss A.

And oh Mr. P… we all feel like this sometimes.

Holiday Deadline… Closing in on us.

Posted on November 11, 2008

Just wanted to post a quick reminder that the Holiday Deadline is fast approaching. If you have already received your gallery please have your orders placed by Monday, November 17th.  I completely understand that life gets busy but we will need to get orders in so that you have them on time for the Holidays.  While my lab is awesome at turn around sometimes they too get behind so better to have them in early.

For those of you who have not received your galleries you will in the next week and your orders will be due 10 days later… no extensions on this please.

And what is a post without pictures… yesterday me and my best friend took our two youngest to my favorite spot for a little photo session.  It is not often I get to have an entire session with my own kid and Miss P is practically mine too.  :)  The four of us had a great time. We had a tea party, explored some old houses and finished off the day with some baby-dolls.  It was awesome.  So here are a few of my faves of the day.

One of my favorites… they were laughing it up here.

This is P’s serious look.  Totally cracked me up, she could turn off her smile on demand.
I am training her early.   :)

She is seriously the sweetest little girl around, just like her mama!

Julie snapped this one of me and my girl.  :)  I love it.

and this is my favorite of Lydia.  She looks so big.

They don’t look anything alike do they?  LOL!

And finally some baby-doll fun.  :)

Love this one too… her concentration and her pursed lips.  So cute!  Love that girl.

More of Baby K

Posted on November 9, 2008

I blogged this little guy before in my big preview post but I am finishing up his session and had to share some more of him.  I just adore his full head hair and sweet little features.  He was very well behaved and slept like a champ once we filled his tummy.  Thank you to the F family for sharing your new little bundle with me.  Your slideshow will be ready for you in the next 24 hours.

He was full of smiles for us.

Such a beautiful baby boy.

His mama brought the scale… I wanted to keep it. :)

My Week…

Posted on November 7, 2008

So I wanted to stay somewhat caught up on blog posts.  I will go back and revisit the other posts in more detail when my schedule slows a bit.  Hopefully that will be before the end of the year. Starting on Sunday I had the posts below. I had a great week and met lots of fun people.  Some I had seen before and some new. And the blessing of the beautiful Fall weather certainly made photographing them even more pleasant.

First up… Mr W!  I have been photographing this little cutie for over two years now.   He is a full blown toddler now and VERY busy. Mom and I had lots of fun chasing him around though.  Like I have said before 2 year olds are quite a challenge but with all my recent practice I seem to be getting a little bit of a system down with them.  :)

This is a HUGE favorite for me, it is not as sharp as I would like it but I love it none the less.

Next up a family I have not seen in 2 years. Since the little man was a newborn. I was so excited to see them all again.  Such a beautiful family.

Love this shot of Little D!

And my favorite prop… my tricycle. :)

Then I got to meet a new client. A beautiful High School Senior. We had a great time exploring a new area of my favorite spot.
Meet Olivia- Class of 2009- West Forsyth High School

Yeah, I told ya she was beautiful.

After my session with Olivia I headed down to Atlanta for a new baby.   Baby J was just beautiful… not as sleepy as I would like but beauitful none the less.  Luckily for us she loved being outside and passed out when we took her out to the front yard. So while this session was not my “typical” newborn session I love it all the same. I will share more later as I proof them.

And this one is one of my favorite ones, love that their house is behind her.

And last but certainly not least is Baby C! I just adore this family.  Not only are the beautiful inside and out but they just let me do my thing.  I love that!  :)  This little guy was a dream. His gorgeous big brown eyes and laid back attitude made this session one of my favorites as of late.  I loved the light in their yard and in the street and we found just enough Fall color to make them bright and fun.  And I was so excited to hear that Baby C will be a big brother very soon.  Congratulations to the whole family.  :)

My favorite!  LOVE the hat.

And big smiles for Daddy throwing him around.  Not sure why but all kids seem to love this… well almost all of them.

So that is my week in review.  I had a wonderfully busy week.  I am desperately trying to get caught up on proofing so all of you waiting please be patient with me.  And for any one who was wondering why I keep changing the way I present my images here on my blog it is because I wanted a bigger image so I had to lose the border and I have been trying to figure out a way to modify my workflow to make it faster to prepare them so I can get them posted sooner for all of you.  I think I finally fixed this problem.

Ok, Ok I will get caught up here…

Posted on November 1, 2008

So today I was chatting with my client after our session and she strongly recommended made the suggestion that I get caught up on blogging by just, for now, posting one image from all the sessions that are waiting on their sneak peeks.  You all know that my main priority is getting out those galleries but I do have many stalkers loyal followers that are waiting oh so patiently to see just one image from their session.  So because I love her so much I decided to go ahead and follow through tonight.  I am not sure if her plan was to get me caught up or to get to see her image tonight.  :)  Either way I love her and I am happy to do it.  So I will come back over here the next few weeks and give proper peeks at these sessions but for now here is an introduction.  So here is what I have been up to for the last two weeks.  And 7 out of the last 10 sessions I have done have involved at least one 2 year old or younger, don’t I deserve some kind of metal for that?  LOL!  Just kidding, they were all really fun to work with.  I love my clients.

And last but not least… let’s all say HOORAY for a 3 year old and two 17 month olds looking at the camera.  :)
